Expect Something Different
Expect personal attention. Expect knowledgeable coaches who care about your success. Big box gyms are structured to make money by getting you to sign up, locking you in for years, then hoping you never come back. CrossFit Midlo is structured to make you better. Your attendance is our goal. Your hard work is our passion. Your success is our business plan. We are committed to supreme and life-long functionality–and this through workouts that are constantly varied so that you are consistently challenged. You won’t get bored.
There is arguably no greater bond among folks as when they work alongside one another, through the fog of adversity, and overcome. There is a shared sense of accomplishment and connection that comes only after facing something difficult alongside someone else. This is the daily norm here.
At CrossFit Midlo, we are firefighters, Marines, and elite athletes as much as we are doctors, financial analysts, grandparents, and “CrossFit Mamas.” CrossFit is for everyone. All benefit supremely from the movements we teach and practice. Senior citizens need to know and practice the proper way to lift something from the ground and onto an upper shelf to maintain functionality, independence, and healthy bone density. The elite athlete uses the same movement (the clean and jerk) to increase his or her power, and thus effectiveness during competition. The difference between the two is a difference in load (weight) and intensity. Both are CrossFitting.
Expect to Work
There are no shortcuts or easy ways, just safe and proper instruction coupled with intensity. This is the land of results. Intensity, relative to each individual, is where all the positive effects of fitness reside. Some would rather read a magazine while riding slowly on a stationary bike. If that is you, there are plenty of gyms to go to (and there is still some benefit in doing so). Here though we work, accepting discomfort as a necessary by-product, and thus we improve.
Expect to Have Fun
CrossFit is the sport of fitness. CrossFit Midlo is the community that plays it, and venue in which it is played. For many, it has revived feelings and competitive motivations long lying dormant beneath the persistent grind of work and responsibility. People are accomplishing tasks they never thought possible. Our bodies are designed to move and it is invigorating when we do so.
Expect to Eat
CrossFit has a healthy view of food. It is necessary for life and to fuel performance. To optimize health and fitness, however, it is crucial that we make quality choices. The following is a brief nutrition guide courtesy of CrossFit Inc.
In plain language, base your diet on garden vegetables (especially greens), lean meats, healthy carbohydrates, good fats, and no sugar. That’s about as simple as we can get. Many have observed that keeping your grocery cart to the perimeter of the grocery store while avoiding the aisles is a great way to protect your health. Food is perishable. The stuff with long shelf life is all circumspect. If you follow these simple guidelines you will benefit from nearly all that can be achieved through nutrition.
