Kevin Knight is a CrossFit Level 2 Certified Trainer. He is also certified by the American Council of Exercise and is a Peer Fitness Trainer in the City of Richmond’s Fire Department. After high school he played soccer for the James Madison University Men’s Soccer team where he received All Colonial Athletic Conference honors each of his four years. He was also the only athlete in JMU history to be honored as both the Male Athlete of the Year and Male Scholar Athlete of the Year simultaneously. After a brief stint in Major League Soccer, Knight found his home with the Richmond Kickers where he played professionally for 9 seasons, 5 of which he served as team captain. During his career with the Kickers, he was voted Fan’s Choice MVP, earned All-League Honors, and helped the Kickers gain the the 2006 League Championship. After soccer, Knight was hired by the Richmond Fire Department where he still serves. He is now assigned to Rescue Company 1 specializing in Swift Water Rescue and Dive Operations. “It was in the fire academy that Captain Ring introduced me to CrossFit. In it, I found the program that best prepares me for firefighting and its varied physical challenges. In addition, it gives me goals to reach for and something to fill the competitive void left after leaving soccer.” He first trained by himself. Then his wife joined in followed by others, and the garage gym grew. A few years later, CrossFit Midlo was born. “I love to see people improve, to accomplish things they didn’t think possible. Our community is special. The people make this fun. It is a blessing and a privilege to play a part in their improved athletic performance and health.” Kevin currently holds certificates from the following courses: CrossFit Coaches Prep, CrossFit Kids, CrossFit Endurance, CrossFit Olympic Lifting, CrossFit Strongman, and CrossFit Football. Additionally, Knight earned a spot, through a top 48 finish in the 2013 CrossFit Open, to compete in the Reebok CrossFit Games Mid Atlantic Regional Competition. He is one of only two Metro-Richmond Athletes to ever achieve this distinction. At Regionals, Knight was one of only 4 athletes to finish the daunting Event 4, “The Hundred’s”.
